Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) is an Institute of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The joint culture of medicine and technology pioneered by its founders more than three decades ago, has come of age and gained unprecedented acceptance in India. The Institute focuses on high quality, advanced treatment of cardiac and neurological disorders, indigenous development of technologies for biomedical devices and materials and public health training and research. The institute offers advanced treatment using modern technologies in several specialized areas such as interventional radiology, cardiac electrophysiology, deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, epilepsy surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, base of skull and vascular surgeries, to name a few. Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies Hospital Wing, which has Community Research, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Ethics, Gender and Health, Health Policy and Management, Technology departments 2. Bio-Medical Technology Wing which consists of Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Biochemistry, Department of Cardiology, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Division of Cellular and Molecular Cardiology, Department of Imaging Sciences and Interventional Radiology, Division of Microbiology, Department of Neurology, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Pathology, Department of Transfusion Medicine. The institute has pioneered some advanced neurological therapies in India, like Epilepsy surgery and Deep Brain Stimulation. In the past 15 years, the institute has done nearly 1,220 epilepsy surgeries — the highest number by any hospital in Asia. SCTIMST has a 239-bed hospital for tertiary care of cardiovascular and neurological diseases. It is a small range: under-250 students enrolment coeducational higher education institution. This 44 years old H.E. institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. The admission rate range is 10-20% making this Indian higher education organization a most selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrolment. President: K. M. Chandrasekhar was is a retired Indian civil servant, who was the 29th Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of India. He is now the Vice-Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board. Dr.Renu Ramesh, Dept. Biotechnology, has won the Best Poster Presentation award, at the national seminar held at the Inter University Centre for Genomics and Gene Technology. Dr.Vinu Rajendran, Dept. of Transfusion Medicine, has won the Best Scientific Paper Award in free paper session , at the 26th Annual Conference and CME of ISBTI - Kerala. Dr. Manna Jose, SCTIMST, has Won the Best Paper Award in Medical Category, at Annual conference of Indian Epilepsy Association & Indian Epilepsy Society held in Patna (Bihar).
