The Maha Swamiji of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam had cherished a desire to revive Kanchipuram to its pristine glory as a center of learning. The Viswa Mahavidyalaya at Kanchi was established with the benign Blessings of Their Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji and Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji and it attained the status of Deemed University in 1993. Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, formed under the aegis of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Charitable Trust in 1993, is located in a sprawling complex of 50 acres at Enathur, at a distance of about 4 Kilometres from Kanchipuram. The University has a campus in Poonamalle, Chennai, housing an ayurveda College, research centre and hospital. The University has a unique focus on integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific practices with a global outlook. The Ministry of Human Resources Development declared the institution a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, on 26.05.1993.   The university consists of the following schools: school of Sanskrit and Indian Culture School of Management, School of Education, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Science, School of Social Science and Humanity, School of Health and Life Science, School of Languages. The university also has The university has MOUs with the following institutions: Birla Institute of Technology and Science, French Institute of Pondicherry, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, National Stock Exchange of India Ltd, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, Universitas Hindu Indonesia, Bali, Indonesia, Yogi Ramsurtkumar Research Foundation for Asian Culture, Tiruvannamalai.   This university offer 23 undergraduate and 23 post graduate courses. MOUs with companies/National/ International universities like Cisco, EMC2, Great Lakes and Universidad de Colima for training, internship, academics, placements etc. It has institutional membership with societies, institutions like CII, CSI, and linkages with CISCO-CCNA, Microsoft etc.   The university promotes research and development in all its departments, under the dean of research and development. Ph.D. programmes are offered in all departments. The Department of Sanskrit and Indian Culture has produced more than 25 doctoral degrees.
