The New York Center for Astrobiology is specified to investigating the origins of life on Earth and the conditions that lead to formation of habitable planets in our own and other solar systems. Researchers and students within the Center understand the chemical, physical, and geological conditions of early Earth that set the stage for life on our planet. They also look beyond our home planet to investigate whether the processes that prepared the Earth for life could be replicated elsewhere. The Center hosts a weekly Origins of Life Seminar Series in the Fall and Spring Semesters, which is open to the public. The goal of the research carried out in the New York Center for Astrobiology is to understand the cosmic history of the materials and processes that lead to the development of life. There are various programs available for the students. A minor in Astrobiology is available for undergraduates majoring in interdisciplinary science or any relevant science discipline. The center is motivated by the national need to inspire and attract students to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines
