On July 18, 1962, the University of Regensburg was founded by resolution of the Bavarian State Parliament. However, the idea of ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹a Regensburg university was not new, because as early as 1487 Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria tried to found a university in the Danube city. However, he failed because of the political circumstances. A second attempt shortly after the Second World War also ran aground due to the financially strained situation of Bavaria.
