The University of Boras, a modern university located in the city of Boras, Sweden. It was founded by the Swedish Higher Education reform in the year 1977. Dr. Ulf Dittmer was the first vice-chancellor of the University. At the time of its foundation there were two educational programme carried- the preschool seminar and the Librarian College. In the year 1980 the Business and IT courses were introduced. Engineering programmes were introduced in the year 1989. University of Boras is a member of European University Association (EUA). The University of Boras, is working towards getting a full university status. Starting with only two progarammes- the preschool seminar and the Librarian College, University of Baros now offers modern day educational programmes like Behavioural and Education Sciences, Business and Informatics, Engineering, Fashion and Textiles Studies and Health Sciences. The University is also providing Doctoral degrees in four of its major programmes. The University of Boras is now running successfully with over 12,000 students from Sweden and abroad and with over 700 employees. Prof. Bjorn Brorstrom is the current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Boras. The University administrative staff strength is about 439 of which 55% are PhD holders. There are currently about 57 doctoral students in the University. In 2001, the university got certified to ISO 14001. The University is taking active part in creating collaboration with various organizations and is currently working on many collaborated projects like- ACTION, R&D centre FoU Sjuhärad Välfärd, Smart Textiles, Technical Textiles for the Building Industry, Waste Refinery. The University of Boras has a strong focus over research and is promoting the same in the areas of library and information science, Business and IT, Teacher Education and Education Work, The Human Perspective in Care, Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery and Textile and Fashion. Francke Helena, Dahlström Mats, Gärdén Cecilia, Hammarfelt Björn, Alexander Karlsson, Lundh Anna Hampson¸ Eriksson Catarina are some of the prominent researchers involved in the recently concluded and on-going researches in Library and information science. Mauléon Christina, Johansson Ulf, Lindgren Rikard, Radon Anita are some of the leading researchers of ongoing research projects in the Business and IT programmes. Holfve-Sabel Mary-Anne, Aldrin Viktor are the leading researchers in the field of Teacher Education work. Herlitz, Johan is leading one of the projects in the human perspective in care. Prof. Gen Larsson, Taherzadeh Mohammad is leading one project in Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery. Stasiulyte Vidmina, Lindahl Berit is leading the research projects in the field of Textile and Fashion.
