The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda

The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda is located in the city of Vadodara, in Gujarat state, India. Its Motto is Love of beauty, Goodness and Intellectual Curiosity. It was established in the year 1949 which is one of the oldest centres of learning in western India. Founder of The M S University of Baroda is Maharaja Sayajiraos grandson Sir Pratapsinghrao Gaekwad. The Vice-Chancellor of the university is appointed for three years and now Prof. Parimal Vyas is the Vice chancellor of the university. The main object of establishing the Maharaja Sayajirao Univerity of Baroda was to provide a unique type of university a teaching and residential university which should have complete freedom in all academic matters and would be free to institute new branches of studies. The university is primarily known for its Faculty Of Sciences and Faculty Of Technology and Engineering. It comprises of 14 Faculties (Arts, Commerce, Education & Psychology, Family & Community Sciences, Fine Arts, Journalism & Communication, Law, Management Studies, Medicine, Performing Arts, Science, Social Work, Technology & Engineering, Pharmacy) having 90 Departments, 3 constituent colleges (Polytechnic, M. K. Amin Arts and Science College & College of Commerce, Padra and Baroda Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya) and several specialized centres and institutes offering wide spectrum of courses from kindergarten to Ph.D. with an excellent exposure to the cocurricular and extracurricular experiences. The Faculty of Arts building is known for its Gumbaz (The Dome), named as the second largest dome in India. The University has offered courses in design, fashion technology, hotel management and catering technology from the academic session 2013-14 onwards. There are arounds 28,000 undergraduates studying here.
