In Bavaria and at the heart of Europe the University’s modern campus is located in the south-eastern part of Bavaria – Germany’s high-technology state – in verdant surroundings, a few minutes’ walk from the historic Old Town of Passau. Since opening its doors to the public in 1978, the University of Passau has quickly developed into a first address in German academia. The University regularly attains top positions in academic rankings, e.g. in Law, Business and Economics, Computer Science, Communication Studies, Political Science and Cultural Studies.
Some 12,000 students and doctoral researchers from more than 90 countries are enrolled at the University of Passau.
Research: The University conducts basic and applied research on a global scale. Scholars and scientists from the University of Passau are involved in a multitude of national and global research projects, such as the DFG Research Training Group on Privacy and the ReConFort project, which has received an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council.
The University of Passau maintains active links with businesses on a regional, national and international scale. Passau is one of the leading regions in Germany in terms of business start-ups. Many University of Passau alumni have set up businesses in Passau in recent years, creating numerous jobs in the region. Building on its strengths, the University wishes to intensify the transfer of leading-edge research from all academic disciplines to businesses and society at large.
Chairs, institutes and start-ups of the University of Passau can present their competence in development as well as innovative products and procedures under a professional common umbrella to an international audience at up to 13 high-tech fairs per year.
