Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute is a premier textile institute of North India. UPTTI Earlier known as Government Central Textile Institute, Kanpur is a premier textile institute of North India. It made a modest start in 1914. However in 1937, Govt. Central Textile Institute came into existence in its present form by merger of two premier textile institute i.e. one at Kanpur and the other at Roorkee i.e. Department of Textile Technology, Thomson Civil Engineering College of Roorkee and two diploma programme were started are Textile Manufacture and Chemical Technology. Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute having departments includes Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Man-Made Fiber Technology, Textile Engineering In the year 1959-60 four year degree Programs in Textile Technology & Textile Chemistry were begun. At first the Institute was associated to Agra University however on station of the University in Kanpur in the year 1966 it got subsidiary to Kanpur University. In the year 1976-77 the establishment spearheaded in beginning a four year degree program in Manmade Fiber engineering.
