Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre CODA CERVA

The CODA-CERVA (Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre) is a Federal scientific research establishment had its origins in a coincidence of circumstances during the first decade of the last century. Forty years after being eliminated from European territory, in 1920 rinderpest staged a dramatic comeback in our land. it was essential to establish such a laboratory, in order to safeguard animal health and hence public health as well which came to be in 1930, which was later (1957) called INRV (National Institute for Veterinary Research).   The CODA-CERVA (Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre) core activities consist of Scientific research, Expert advice, Efficient provision of services. Major activity are Veterinary activities which includes Epidemic, endemic and emerging transmittable diseases in animals, Zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases threatening public health, Epidemiology: surveillance, risk analysis, and molecular epidemiology and Agrochemical activities which includes Contaminants and the quality of the environment in the framework of safe food production.   It contributes to a proactive policy in terms of food production safety, animal health and public health, at both the Federal and international levels: it supports the preparation of the Federal Public Service for Public Health, food chain safety and environment and of the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAFSC). CODA-CERVA is under the wordship of the Minister of SMCs, Independent workers, Agriculture and Scientific policy, and is administratively connected to the Federal Public Service for Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment.   The major resources of CODA-CERVA (Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre) mploys about 85 researchers, some 110 laboratory technicians and approximately 50 people in support services. Headquarters are located at Uccle (+/-180 workers). Its veterinary laboratories are also here. The CODA-CERVA agrochemical laboratories are located Tervuren (+/-40 workers) CODA-CERVA also has a site at Machelen (experimental center)
