Xiangtan University (XTU) is located in Xiangtan City China. The founding year of the University was September 10, 1958 by the Chairman Mao. XTU ranked about 80th among China's colleges and universities. It covers ten categories of disciplines including literary, history, philosophy, science, engineering, medicine, economy, management, law and arts. Of all the disciplines, chemistry, materials science and engineering have ranked among the top 1% of the global universities and research institutions on ESI.
XTU has 21 colleges (schools and departments), 1 independently-operated college, 85 undergraduate programs, 3 national key disciplines, 2 Hunan provincial superior and characteristic key disciplines, 19 key disciplines for the 12th "Five-Year Plan" period (2011-2015) in Hunan Province, 8 doctoral degree programs of first-level discipline and 7 ones of second-level discipline, 13 master’s degree programs, and 11 post-doctoral research centres. XTU has 1462 full-time teachers and 780 part-time teachers. At present, there are 36,803 full-time students in XTU,including 6,383 PhD and postgraduate students, and 376 foreign students. 7,092 are studying at the affiliated college, Xingxiang College and it also provide 2 national quality video open classes.
The university has taken 499 items of state-level scientific projects, including sub-projects of major national science and technology. The university has published more than 8,700 pieces of articles on domestic and international academic journals and conferences, and more than 1000 monographs and the university has assigned 925 items of industry-university-research cooperation projects. It is the only national comprehensive reform demonstration unit conducting postgraduate education of professional degree in Hunan.
XTU also enjoys high employment rate, whose graduates are highly praised by the employers. Xiangtan University currently has more than 60 global partners and has established nearly 90 cooperation agreements, involving various academic fields, with higher education institutions in more than 20 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Russia, Ukraine, UK, Spain, France, German, Portugal, Belgium, Czech Republic, Uganda, Ghana, USA, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba.
Being open and inclusive in academic studies, the University sponsors or organizes nearly 100 academic conferences at national and international level every year. There are 64 research institutes of natural science in the university, including 4 ones at state level, 25 at provincial or ministerial level, 10 at prefectural or departmental level, and 25 at university level. Xiangtan University students mainly involved in culture, public welfare, technology, arts, sports, students' practice, and academic research. With a mission to create excellent association culture and foster campus elites, it has now grown into one of the most influential student organizations in the university.
