Butler University is founded in 1855 by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler situated in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood & accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Butler has maintained continuous accreditation status since 1915.
