The Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH) is a young scientific institute established in 2003 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in partnership with the City of Guangzhou and Guangdong Province. Our mission at GIBH is to serve the citizens of China and the world by integrating the biological and chemical sciences for the improvement of human health.GIBH is located in a newly constructed campus in the Science Park. It comprises five buildings, each containing state-of-the-art, fully equipped research laboratories. Our institute employs approximately 400 staff members and mentors about 250 students. In addition to championing basic science and academic exploration, a primary objective for us is drug discovery research and the advancement of new therapeutics into clinical trials. From 2005 to 2013, more than 20 international collaborative projects were launched and 16 international conferences were held by GIBH. Through such strong international networks, centralized drug development technology groups, integrated project teams and continuous government support, GIBH is consistently refining its objectives to build multiple research platforms and attract outstanding international collaborators from China and across the world.Various positions at GIBH are currently available. It has over one hundred institutes and two universities (the University of Science and Technology of China at Hefei, Anhui and the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing). Backed by the institutes of CAS, UCAS is headquartered in Beijing, with graduate education bases in Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Lanzhou, four Science Libraries of Chinese Academy of Sciences, three technology support centers and two news and publishing units. These CAS branches and offices are located in 20 provinces and municipalities throughout China. CAS has invested in or created over 430 science- and technology-based enterprises in eleven industries including eight companies listed on stock exchanges.Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology,National Center for Nanoscience and Technology,Institute of Policy and Management,Institute of Psychology.The center accommodates most of GIBH’s instruments, worth a total of 55 million RMB. Instruments include Flow Cytometer, Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope, High Content Screening System, DNA/RNA Synthesizer, Peptide Synthesizer, Biomolecular Interaction Analysis, X-ray Diffractometer, 400MHz and 500MHz Nuclear The total value of the instruments at GIBH is worth 110 million RMB, among which there are 91 instruments valued at over 200,000 RMB.The centre aims to build a leading platform of laboratory animals by observing the stringent quality control and standard operating procedures in order to perform high quality animal experiments. The center covers an area of 4,400 square meters and provides GIBH research teams with standardized animals, reliable facilities which assist research teams to complete related experiments.
