Gebze Institute of Technology (GIT), though a young organization, has already arrived at a critical position alongside the profound established and exceedingly regarded logical establishments of the world with its leaps, with its projects acknowledged, and with its objectives desired; is progressing with surefooted steps towards its goal of becoming a university which emphasizes graduate education and training, university-industry collaboration and exploration of new innovations. Currently lead by rector, Prof. Dr. Orhan Şahin, GIT was founded in July 11, 1992, in Istanbul. It later moved to Gezbe on December 3, 1993. The institute has been providing graduate programs in various fields in its four different faculties of Science, Business Administration, Architecture and Engineering since 1994. It started its undergraduate programs in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics, Materials Science, Electronics and Computer Engineering in 2001. GIT currently has 785 undergraduate and 1566 graduate students and employs a total of 372 academic personnel. GIT’s mission is to educate individuals who keep up the essential standards of the republic and universal ethical values, can think independently and critically, know how to get to the data and how to utilize it, produce, enhance, disseminate, make research, develop the ability to work independently and succeed in team work as well, exhibit social responsibility and natural cognizance, know the fundamental tenets of their professions at undergraduate level, are well specialized in the sub-discipline at graduate level, deliver and apply present day innovations, to contribute to the competitive power of the national industry and to make research and development studies in collaboration with the industry.
