Hebei University of Science and Technology is in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China. It provides undergraduate degrees in science, engineering, humanities, and social science courses. The university was established in 1996 from the merger of several higher education institutions. They include Hebei Institute of Chemical Technology and Light Industry, Hebei Institute of Mechano-Electric Engineering, Hebei Textile Staff & Workers University. The university composes of four campuses; the Central Campus, the West Campus, the East Campus, and the Gaoxin Campus. The Central Campus, the main campus, is located in the center of Shijiazhuang city, capital of Hebei province, with beautiful surroundings and convenient transport facilities. The university library has a huge collection of almost 1,300,000 volumes and 2000 kinds of scientific journals in Chinese and foreign languages. It has many kinds of data bases such as Academic Journals of China, Scientific Journals in foreign languages, achievements in science and technology, enterprise products, and digital books, proceedings and periodicals, etc. The exit width of the campus network, established in 1997, has reached 100M. The university constitutes 16 colleges which includes 45 undergraduate departments, among which Environmental Engineering and Chemical Technology are the main, region-level disciplines. 9 departments in university are authorized to provide masters degrees. They are Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Chemical Technology, Management Science and Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Material Processing Engineering, Applied Computer Technology, Food Science, Ferment, Engineering, and Textile Chemistry and Dying Engineering. The departments consist of 7 categories: Engineering, Science, Liberal Art, Economy, Management, Laws, and Medicine, which have covered almost all the traditionally superior industries and high and new-tech industries of Hebei region. Currently there are more than 2,600 faculty members in the university, which includes more than 1,150 professional teachers, 550 professors and associate professors. Full-time undergraduates, graduates and overseas students are more than 19,440, along with this adult students count is 12,100 in the university, and above 40,000 students have holded graduation degree from university. In recent years, Hebei University of Science and Technology has shown much improvement in teaching level and quality have. Three majors of Hebei University of Science and Technology i.e. communication engineering, machinery design and manufacture and automation and electronic engineering is listed in the first enrollment of Hebei province with the approval of Hebei Education Examination Academy. It shows that that Hebei University of Science and Technology comprehensive strength and teaching standard have reached height of success. For satisfying the need of local economic development, the university strengthens the partnership of industry, university and research in undertaking many key projects jointly, a new pattern that focuses on applied and development researches as well as basic research. The University has supposed 40 national research programs of 863 Program and NSFC, and 100 of horizontal programs; its patent licenses ranked first in Hebei in successive four years, ranked as 54th in universities of China; scientific research funds are also growing quickly in university, till 30 million RMB in 2006.
