Indian Institute of Pulses Research is a government institute. It is located in Kanpur from Uttar Pradesh. Indian Institute of Pulses Research was recognized in the year of 1983 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. This institute was focused on major pulse research crop. It is placed on Grand Trunk Road near by 12Km of Kanpur railway station road on the way to New Delhi. The Institute has on track its journey as All India Corresponding Pulses development Project (AICPIP) at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in 1966.Later in 1978, its head office was moved to the then Regional Station of IARI at Kanpur beneath the name of Project Directorate (Pulses). It was further eminent as Directorate of Pulses Research (DPR) in 1984 and converted an self-governing entity under the direct control of ICAR. The Institute advances proper creation and protection technologies, production and quantity of breeder seeds of developed varieties, protest and allocation of technologies and planned direction of pulse research through wide complex of testing centers through the country. Indian Institute of Pulses Research have some success stories and awards too. Ramswaroop, he is 65 years old and dropped from high school, he is progressive farmer of village Kashikheda in district Jalaun of Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. He have his own 4.25 acres of land which is mainly mono cropped with wheat and chickpea as main crops. He was recognised as one of the key farmers by IIPR, Kanpur for carrying out protests under farmer to farmer allowance to project. Indian Institute of Pulses Research have total 6 awards. National Gold star Award 2001 (by International Business Council), CGIARs King Baudouin Award 2002, ICRISATS Doreen Mashler Award 2002, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Puraskar 2006, Millennium ICRISAT Science Award 2009, great Partnership Award 2009 (For collaborative pulse research programme).
