Istanbul Medipol University, one of the youngest and the modern universities in Turkey, was founded on 7 July 2009 by Turkey Education Health and Research Foundation (TESA) and started education in 2010. The university is equipped with modern classrooms, laboratories, library, and other facilities on both campuses. The university has cooperated with one of the biggest private health care provider, Medipol Mega Hospitals Complex. This hospital serves as the university hospital. Istanbul Medipol University has two campuses: Halic Campus is located on the Golden Horn Peninsula, one of the oldest regions in Istanbul and Kavacık Campus is on the Asian side of Istanbul where most of the facilities, dormitories, sports areas, and research laboratories are located. The programmes offered in Istanbul Medipol University are Medicine, Dentistry, pharmacy, law, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Health Management, Graduate Schools, Distant Education, Lifelong Education, Turkish Music, Psychology, Electrical And Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Child Development, Midwifery, Audiology, Orthotics-Prosthetics, Vocational School of Justice and Vocational School of Health Services.
Istanbul University provides education for both national and international students. During its first year about 7% undergraduate students got admitted in the university across the globe. Turkish students who have placed by ÖSYS (Student Selection and Placement Exam in Turkey) of Istanbul Medipol University can warrant 100%, 50% and 25% scholarships according to the results. International students are accepted to the undergraduate programs with 25%, to associate programmes with 50% of scholarship.
Laboratories on Kavacık Campus Research park give the opportunity for research to each unit, The labs are equipped with high technology and accreditation infrastructure in line with the needs of multidisciplinary Medicine R&D. The university carries out researches in its well established laboratories on - Cell Culture, Molecular Biology, Gemonics, Bioinformatics, Proteomics, Dental, Biomechanics, Electrophysiology, Advanced Microscopy, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Laboratory Animal Unit (MEDAM). Neurology Regeneration, Cardiovascular System Regeneration, Epimorphic Regeneration, Stem cell and cancer correlation, Biocompatible material, Prosthesis and bio implants, Rehabilitation, Neuromodulation, Micro biome, Complementary medicine application are the primary research fields of the university. Medipol University Academic Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Åensoy is entitled to have (COST) support of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology for her Project on the treatment of Parkinsons disease. Dr. Ersen has won young scientist award by Turkey science academy in being one of 31 scientists among 105 applications in the field of nature, engineering, health and social sciences. Ersen is one of the two researchers who has received awards in health sciences in Turkey Science Academy (TÜBA)-Young Scientist (GEBIP) for his work on multiple sclerosis. Dr. Ersens study, multiple sclerosis for which he was awarded will shed light on the better understanding of the myelin diseases known as MS among people and the development of new treatment methods.
