The Jai Narain Vyas University (formerly known as University of Jodhpur), the second in the State of Rajasthan was established in 1962. Dr S Radhakrihnan, the president of India inaugurated the University of Jodhpur on 24 August 1962. The university began to function in June 1962, when it took over the four colleges of Jodhpur run by the state government.
