Jimei University has a historical background of existence. It was recognized to originate from Jimei Normal School, which was founded by a very famous patriot, Chinese leader Mr. Chen Jiageng in the year 1918. Later in 1994, five universities came together, such as Jimei Navigation Institute, Xiamen Fisheries College, Fujian Physical Education College, Jimei Finance and Economics Institute and Jimei Teachers College to form Jimei University.
In several disciplines, such as Engineering, Agronomy, Economics, Administration, Pedagogy, Science, Literature, and Law, Jimei University, has integrated with 29 other small colleges, providing several programmes to students coming from different parts of the country. University has a vast campus area of 2300 mu, where 26000 students graduating every year, with a teaching faculty of 1500.
Students coming out of Jimei University are succeeding in getting employment in different fields, based on the reports provided by Ministry of Education, China. Now, this university is being specialized in the fields of maritime education and fisheries.
