Joint BioEnergy Institute is related to Department of Bioenergy Research Center, US. Four highly sophisticated laboratories of US are partnered with this institute in bioenergy and biofuel research. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory are the supporting laboratories and the head office of Joint BioEnergy Institute is located in EmeryStation East, a state-of-the-art laboratory in Emeryville, CA.
There are approximately, 150 scientists working for this institute. Along with this, there are three academic-research partners, such as, UC Berkeley, UC Davis and Carnegie Institution for Science. Major mission of this institute is to identify the possible ways to convert lignocellulosic waste to biofuels. Institute will be also engaged in the technology transfer by collaborating with the entrepreneurs. Joint BioEnergy Institute deals with the research of topics such as feedstock, deconstruction, fuel synthesis and technology related to biofuels and bioenergy.
