About Genesis of the KVAFSU
Realizing the loss of two decades of prime development in the growth of animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries under Agricultural Universities set up, the Government of Karnataka took bold steps in establishing the new University called Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University on the floor of the Legislative Assembly. The KVAFSU was formed as per the Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2004 called The Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries University Act 2004 and published in the Karnataka Gazette Extra-Ordinary on the 23rd day of February, 2004. The University was established exclusively for the development of education and learning; conduct of research and extension education and transfer the rural oriented technologies in the areas of Veterinary, Animal, Dairy and Fisheries Sciences in Karnataka. The logo of the University is inscribed with the slogan Farmers Friendly and Rural Oriented, which emphasizes the importance given to betterment of farming community. Prof. R.N. Sreenivas Gowda was appointed as its first Vice-Chancellor and served with effect from September, 2004 until February 9th, 2008. Later Prof. G.S. Bhat and Dr.S.Mallikarjunappa served as Acting Vice-Chancellors for a brief period from February 10th, 2008 to July 24, 2008. Prof Suresh Honnappagol was served as second Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. C. Renukaprasad has been appointed as third Vice-Chancellor of the University from 21st September, 2012.
KVAFSU is an autonomous academic institution governed by its Board of Management which regulates the polices of the university in accordance with the provision of act and statues. The University administration also has the support of the finance Committee. Academic matters are looked after by the Board of Studies of Faculties and the Academic Council, while Research Council and Extension Education Council decide the research and extension activities of the University, respectively.
Objectives of the University are
•    To impart professional quality higher education in different branches of Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences.
•    To further the advancement of learning and prosecution of Research in Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences other allied sciences.
•    To undertake the Extension Education of such specialized knowledge and transfer of technologies to the needy rural farmers in cooperation with the Government Departments concerned.
•    To take up such other objects that the State Government may notify from time to time.
Mission
The mission of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, is to strive hard and provide leadership in teaching, research and extension education services related to veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries and other allied sciences. The University Endeavour is to keep pace with new frontiers of science and contemporary developments to be socially and technically relevant. In this context, the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University is strongly committed in absorbing newer paradigms and using them to develop excellent human resource, innovative technologies and their dissemination so as to serve the livestock and fishery farming community of the state and the country. 
Mandate
The primary objective and mandate of the university is to uplift the rural livestock, poultry and fish farmers with a motto of ‘Rural Oriented and Farmer Friendly’ activities. The university has a territorial jurisdiction of entire state of Karnataka covering all 28 districts.
•    Making provision for imparting education in different branches of study particularly veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries and other allied sciences.
•    Furthering the advancement of learning and research, particularly in veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries and other allied sciences.
•    Undertaking the extension of veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries and other allied sciences to the rural people of the state.
•    Such other purposes as the State Government may specify by notification in the official gazette.

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IN FOOD BUSINESS (MBA in Food Business)
MBA in Food Business Management is two-year full time MBA programme and is offered at the Hebbal Campus Bangalore of the Dairy Science College, of the Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University under self financing mode. English is the medium of instruction for the MBA programme in Food Business of the Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: a) Candidates to be eligible for admission to the two-year full time MBA programme in Food Business in the University shall possess eligible bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines viz., B.Tech.(D.Tech); B.V.Sc; B.V.Sc & AH; B.F.Sc.; B.Sc.(Agri); B.Sc.(Ag. Maco), B.Sc.(Hort), B.Sc.(Rural Home Science), B.Tech. (Food Engineering), B.Sc. (Food Technology); B.Tech. (Agri. Engieering); B.Sc.(Sericulture); B.Sc (Banking) and all professional graduates of State Agricultural Universities / Veterinary Universities/ Deemed universities under ICAR system with a minimum of 6.00/10.00 or equivalent percentage, or All graduates form a recognised University who have studied a 4 year-Under Graduate programme or possessing a Post Graduate in any discipline. or All graduates who have passed the Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) or Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course. If any seat reserved in favour of candidates belonging to any of the reserved categories as communicated by the GOK, is not filled up due to non availability of eligible candidates such seats shall be transferred to the general merit category. Reservation of seats shall be as per the prevailing orders of the Government of Karnataka (GOK) policy. There is no specific domicile requirement for the candidates applying for this programme.
FOREIGN STUDENTS A few seats are set apart for Foreign Nationals (FN) / Non - Resident Indians (NRIs) / NRI – sponsored candidates the MBA programme in Food Business.

Born on 20th Sept. 1956 at Chakur Dist. Latur, Maharashtra, Dr. Shivshankar Madhavrao Usturge completed his primary and pre-university education at Latur. After obtaining B.V.Sc & A.H. in 1st division from Marathwada Agricultural University Parbhani in 1980, he completed his post graduation in Veterinary Surgery with 1st division from Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai in 1982. After a brief service as house surgeon at Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai, he joined as Assistant Professor at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, M.A.U. Parbhani in October 1982. He continued his academic pursuance during his service and obtained Ph.D. degree from M.A.U. Parbhani in the year 1993. During the period form 1990-96 he served as Associate Professor, under M.A.U. Parbhani and Veterinary College Udgir. Upon his selection as Professor and Head, Dept. of Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary College, Bidar in 1996, he continued his services as University Head of the Department under UAS Dharwad  & KVAFSU, Bidar. He was elevated  to University  Officer and worked as  Director of Instruction (PGS), Dean, Veterinary College, Bidar under KVAFSU, Bidar from year 2006 till date. He is also worked as I/C Vice-Chancellor, Director of Research,  Controller of Examination & University Librarian under the University. He  has organized National Conference of ISVS as Organising Secretary during 2006 & National Agri. Uni. Sports as Vice Chairman of Organizing Committee during 2013 at Bidar. Besides having publisher over 81 researches and clinical article in journals of National and International repute and 89 abstracts in National and International Symposia / Seminar. Dr. S.M. Usturge is closely associated with various professional organizations at National level (Life member of 8 organizations). He is elected as Vice-President of Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery during year 2006. He has been member of advisory committee of 36 M.V.Sc. and 4 Ph.D. and guided 12 M.V.Sc. &1 Ph.D. as Major Advisor. He is recipient of two State and 14 National Awards. He has awarded Fellow of Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery (FISVS) and National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (FNAVS).
