The National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur) is a technical institution funded by the Government of India,located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Founded in 1956 as Govt. College of Mining & Metallurgy with two engineering disciplines, mining and metallurgy, the institute is one of the oldest of its kind in India. Currently it is one of the National Institutes of Technology, which have been accorded Institute of National Importance status by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. The institute offers 2 undergraduate (B.Tech. and B.Arch.) and two postgraduate programmes M.Tech. and M.C.A. in 11 engineering disciplines and Architecture. Development of India as an emerging industrial power is a demanding exercise as it involves the combination of cost effectiveness and efficiency along with producing world-class technology at the cutting edge. For about five decades we have been doing it with sincerity and commitment at NIT Raipur. At present the institute offers graduate level courses in twelve disciplines. National Institute of Technology, Raipur (NIT RR), upgraded in the year 2006, is an Institute of national importance and presently runs academic courses in 12 major disciplines in the form of graduate and post graduate courses. The institute also inducts scholars for PhD courses. In addition to these, the institute intends to provide continuing education in a very broad spectrum keeping in view the needs of industries, academic institutions, research organizations and, last but not the least, the society. Apart from this, if CEC identifies areas of practical importance and interests, then the Cell may consult with the concerned area experts and upon receiving their willingness may schedule the course(s). In addition to technology related courses, CEC should also undertake to run courses from humanities and other relevant fields. Overall, the courses should be on topics of interest to the industry, academicians and research scholars and organizations. Prof. Sudarshan Tiwari joined as a Director of National Institute of Technology, Raipur on 25th July 2012. Prior to his present assignment, he was professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at MNNIT, Allahabad, where he has held several important administrative and academic positions namely, Head of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Dean Research & consultancy, Dean Resource generation and International affairs, Chairman, GIS Cell, Head of the Mathematics Department, Deputy Project Coordinator INDO-UK REC Project. To create research environment among the newly joined Assistant Professors in NIT Raipur and to create opportunities for the researchers to explore their research ideas, Research Seed Grant Scheme NITRR is proposed.
