The Nobel Foundation has been started in the year 29 June 1900 based on the last will of Alfred Nobel. It is a private institution established to manage the finances and administration of the Nobel Prizes. The Foundation utilizes the assets for awarding Nobel Laureates in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace. It also conducts Nobel Symposia on important breakthroughs in science and topics of social or cultural significance. The symposia have covered topics like cosmology, chemical kinetics, diabetes mellitus, prostaglandins, string theory, and the Cold War in the 1980s. It represents the Nobel Institutions externally and governs activities and arrangements for presenting the Nobel Prize. The Nobel Symposium Committee members are from the Nobel Committees in Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Peace, and Physiology or Medicine; the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation; the Prize Committee for Economics; and the Wallenberg Foundation. The Nobel Week Dialogue is also conducted during the annual Nobel Week, an open one-day meeting held in early December, bringing together world-leading scientists, Nobel Laureates, thought leaders and policy makers for discussions that cross the traditional boundaries between science and society. The meeting is free to attend, and alternates between Gothenburg and Stockholm, Sweden.
The Nobel Prize is an international award given by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden, and based on the fortune of Alfred Nobel, Swedish inventor and Entrepreneur. Between 1901 and 2016, the Nobel Prizes and the Prize in Economic Sciences were awarded 579 times to 911 people and organizations. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences. Each Prize consists of a medal, a personal diploma, and a cash award. The Nobel Museum has produced travelling exhibitions since its inception in 2001. The tours vary from large ones, appearing in exhibition halls from New Delhi to Tokyo, to small displays co-produced with schools in Uganda.
