Omar Al-Mukhtar University started as an Islamic university in Bayda in the year 1835 by Ali al-Sanusi of the religious group, it educates people from different locations of the world. The University was named as University of Mohammed bin Ali al-Sanusi Muslim at first and it has been changed its name to the University of Omar Al-Mukhtar. The university has four sections in Badya, Dome, Derna and Tobruk. Omar Al-Mukhtar University awarded academic degrees in B.Sc , Masters and doctoral Degrees.
The education in this university is adopted its discipline after the Libyan government offered scholarships. When the university converted from Islamic university is was included in University of Garyounis. he College Implants affiliated with the University of Benghazi in this period. And named after the Libyan hero Omar Mukhtar and became independent in 1984. The first international conference was conducted in the year 2014.
