Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is one of three tertiary level facilities in Queensland, providing care in all major adult specialties, with the exception of obstetrics. It is one of Australias leading academic and research health centres. The site of the current Princess Alexandra Hospital has a rich history of health care spanning over one hundred years. The hospital now has an on-site museum, open to the public, which collects and documents key artifacts relating to the history of the hospital.In 2004, the staff of Princess Alexandra Hospital was elated to be the first hospital in the Southern Hemisphere to receive the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing care. In May 2009, the PAH became the first re-designated Magnet facility outside of America. Achieving Magnet Recognition ultimately recognizes our 2,200 valuable nurses, the highest quality of care they deliver, the support they receive, opportunities available, the team environment, commitment and spirit that we are extremely proud of. Magnet is an international program which has three decades of evidence based research recognizing the benefits of the program to both staff and patients.
