Sakarya University

Sakarya University is frequently referred to simply as SAU, is a public research university located in the city of Adapazarı, the capital of the Turkish province of Sakarya. Considered one of the largest universities in Turkey with more than 85,000 students, Sakarya University has very high research activity and its comprehensive graduate program offers doctoral degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Humanities, as well as professional degrees in business, medicine, law, nursing, social work and dentistry. It hosts five different institutes: Educational Sciences, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and Middle East Institute. Sakarya University was established according to the Law No. 3837 dated July 3, 1992. In Turkey, Sakarya University is the first and only state university receiving the ISO-2002 Quality Certificate and "the EFQM Excellence Quality Certificate of Competency Level. As one of the universities established in 1990s, Sakarya University has set a good example due to not only its success in completion of academic units and technical infrastructure but its advances in laboratories, educational and social services, internet infrastructure and informatics as well. Sakarya University has institutes like Institute of Educational Sciences, Institute of Natural Sciences, Institute of Middle East, Institute of Health Science, Institute of Social Sciences. This University has many departments like Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, Education, Political Sciences, Technical Education, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts, Dentistry, Law, Theology, Communication, Management, Sport Sciences, Technology, Tourism. Sakarya School of Engineering and Architecture established in 1970, the school was named as “Sakarya Faculty of Engineering” in 1992. Sakarya University has four schools namely State Conservatory, Kaynarca School of Applied Sciences, School of Health, School of Foreign Languages. The university has 4 institutes, 13 faculties, 4 schools, 1 Conservatory and 14 vocational schools, Sakarya University pursues excellence in short-cycle, undergraduate and graduate levels. 3 departments running university-wide classes and 13 research centers are continuously doing their important activities in their respective fields. Total number of faculty members in Sakarya university are 963, total administrative staff are 727. The number of staff in 2000 is 90, in 2001 is 93, 2003 is 95, 2005 is 119 and it has increased to 138 in the year 2014. The total number of students in Sakarya university are 89693. Number of Department/Program with defined education purposes are 245, Number of department/program with defined Qualifications/Outcomes are 263, Number of courses correlated with Program Qualifications/Outcomes are 13107, Number of courses with defined teaching methods are 8861, Number of courses with defined learning outcomes are 8861. Sakarya University has research centers for the researchers such as Disaster Management Application and Research Center, Research-Development Application and Research Center, Research and Application Center for Ataturk Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, European Union Research and Documentation Center, Research and Application Center for Balkan Studies and Computer Research and Application Center.
