Founded in the year 1935, it first started off as Sunchon Public Agricultural School that was built with an aid donated by U-Seok Kim Jong IK for creating a venue where academic talent and patriotic tastes are cultivated in the students. It was later named as Sunchon Agricultural Middle school in the year 1946 and then on got renamed further and finally was registered as Sunchon Agricultural College in the year 1979 as a tertiary educational institution. In the year 1982, it developed into a full-fledged university level with 10 different departments. A graduate school was established in the year 1987 which further evolved into a 4-year university with 5 colleges in 1991. Ever since many departments and branches were added in the university making it a massive place to study with all the subjects made available. A state of art central library built in the year 2001 is a great source of knowledge and information for the students studying here. It was nominated as a top university in the year of 2002 for the laurels attained in the field of agriculture and thus, won recognition as the best agricultural university. With a vast campus, the university attracts students from different parts of the world owing to the amenities available. From a health service centre located in the middle of the university to a support centre that makes it easy for newbies in and around is a major plus point. Korean language course is provided within the campus so that foreign students of any ethnic background can make use of it. Buddy program and student friendly dormitories make it an even more attractive destination for students of different cultures to come and mingle here. The University is home to students from a wide spectrum of ethnic backgrounds. The majority of them being Chinese in the undergraduate section while there are good number of them from Mongolia, Vietnam, United States, Japan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, New Zealand, Morocco, Ethiopia, Philippines, India etc. The University is tied up with a number of top universities around the world for Student-Exchange programmes, few of them being University of Oklahoma, Arkansas State University, University of Missouri, Arizona State University, University of South Carolina etc from the United States. There are also other universities from Japan, Australia, New-Zealand, India, Germany, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan etc. The major research interest of the University is to develop expertise in Eco-friendly agricultural resources which is very essential for sustaining in the ever growing pollution in our environment. There is a specific department dedicated to make these innovations happen in the agricultural department which will ultimately help in the advancement of mankind.
