The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was established in 2005 by the Ministries of Innovation, Universities and Enterprises and Health of the (Autonomous Government of Catalonia). Today, IBEC’s relationship with the UB and UPC researchers continues to operate under a framework agreement signed in 2008. Institute has 17 research groups and 250 researchers and staff from 20 different countries. IBEC, frontier research is combined with specific transfer targets to produce new applied technologies to be used in life and health sciences. IBEC is part of a new wave of research creativities set up in the last decade, with collective interests and points of view regarding how to advance the frontiers of knowledge in experimental science to benefit clinical and biomedical research. Board of Trustees in IBEC composed of members of the four founding institutions it receive suggestion from director of the institute and from the International Scientific Committee. In IBEC international Scientific Committee plays a key role in the activities of the institute focusing especially on the selection and evaluation processes of the research group leaders. IBEC mission is to have Basic and interdisciplinary research in bioengineering and nanomedicine at the highest international level. Collaborations with international academia, hospitals and industry. Knowledge and technology transfer to the biomedical sector and Training the next generation of experts in healthcare technology. To achieve these objectives, the institute aims to work with a basic research in areas currently associated with nanotechnology applied to medicine, to the most technological applications aimed at diagnosis or robotic and minimally invasive surgery, among others. Researches in IBEC are divided in to groups main aim of groups is to have wide exploration in each and different fields. Some groups in IBEC are Nanoscopy for nano medicine groups, molecular dynamics at cell biomaterial interface group, Mechanics of development and diseases group, Biomaterial for regenerative therapies group, Nanomalaria, Nanoscale bioelectrical, Nanoprobes and nanoswitches and many eminent groups. Large groups with different subjects aims to provide services in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology for all academic and industrial researchers. Some of the many areas of application include nanobioengineering, BioMEMS, materials science, tissue engineering, optic and biomaterials. Which a have EU(European Commission) funded projects, privately funded and national projects and consists of publication from each and different groups from date of establishment.
