In the year 1966 on 18-10-1966 from the footing of kufa mosque the idea of establishing a university for Islamic studies was raised. Educators and academics who believed in knowledge and virtue are involved in establishment of university. In the year 1967 to full fill the country’s university needs University of Kufa was constituted on 07/03/1967. In 1987 with all the ideas, associations, decision was issued to establish a university of Kufa. Hence, the University of Kufa opened its doors in December 1987 on the ground that there were two well- established faculties, the faculty of Jurisprudence which was founded in 1958 and the Faculty of Medicine which was established in 1977 . Both the above two facilities were part of Al-Mustansiriya University of Baghdad. The university was established with the aim of providing the best quality of academic education based on a framework of Islamic ethos and values. In 1991, the regime of Saddam Hussein closed the university after an uprising in March 1991, but four months later it was restored by an issued decision and without its property.
