University of Lisboa

The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) (Portuguese: Universidade de Lisboa, pronounced: [univɨɾsiˈdad(ɨ) dɨ liʒˈboɐ];) is a public research university in Lisbon, and the largest university in Portugal. It was founded in 2013, from the merger of two previous public universities located in Lisbon, the former University of Lisbon (1911-2013) and the Technical University of Lisbon (1930-2013). The history of a university in Lisbon dates back to the 13th century.The current University of Lisbon is the result of the merger of two former public universities of Lisbon, the former University of Lisbon (1911-2013), founded in 1911 and the Technical University of Lisbon, founded in 1930. The merger process was initiated in 2011 and was made into law on December 31, 2012. As stated on the decree-law nº 266-E/2012, the new University of Lisbon began its legal existence on the day the newly elected rector took office, on July 25, 2013.
