The University of Portland is a thriving community of more than 4,000 students, who come from around the nation and the world, as well as over 1,000 faculty and staff. The University is led by Fr. Mark L. Poorman, CSC, who began his tenure as University of Portland’s 20th president in 2014. The University of Portland was ranked the 23rd top college in the United States by Payscale and CollegeNets Social Mobility Index college rankings. The University of Portland is ranked as the 8th best "Regional University" and 12th "Best Value School" in the West by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Portland is also the top producer of Fulbright scholars in the entire nation among “master’s universities”. University of Portland is Oregon’s only comprehensive university with schools of business, education, engineering, nursing, a College of Arts and Sciences, and a graduate school. There are more than 40 undergraduate programs and 30 minors, as well as 18 graduate programs, and more than 1,300 courses. The University features small class settings (14:1 student-faculty ratio) and award-winning faculty. German professor Laura McLary was named the 2015 Oregon Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation and Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and the University was one of only 14 schools nationwide to be named a top producer of both student and faculty Fulbright awards in 2015-2016.
