West Bengal State University commonly known as WBSU and Barasat University is a public university situated in Barasat, North 24 Paraganas, near the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
There are 59 colleges (including Undergraduate, Postgraduate and B.Ed) in the district of North 24 Parganas affiliated to West Bengal State University. The University has both 2f and 12B affiliation from UGC. University has Anti Ragging Cell and sexual harassment cells for security of the students. The Sports Cell of West Bengal State University was established in November, 2008, which was affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities in the year 2009. Due to its locational advantage at the rural belt and many of the famous sportspersons being the citizens of North 24 Parganas District by birth, our university gave birth to a number of good players in different fields of boys’ and girls’ events.
Research collaborations include respected research institutes such as Bose Institute, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS), Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Calcutta, Jadavpur, Vidyasagar, Tripura and other Universities, National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, IUCA, and many more. Collaborations with different foreign university and institutes also exist with the different departments of WBSU. The University has filed for two patents in collaboration with Bose Institute, Kolkata.
