Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is a public research university. It is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States. WSSU is a recognized regional institution offering baccalaureate and graduate programs to a diverse student population. Winston-Salem State offers over 40 academic majors and 10 graduate degrees. The school enrolls approximately 6,400 students and employs 400 faculty and over 800 staff members. It was founded in 1892. WSSU has become the first African-American institution in the nation to grant elementary education teaching degrees in 1925.The famous Archway magazine is one of the publications of WSSU. Winston-Salem State is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The University is dedicated to the development of students through excellence in teaching, scholarship and service which has been its mission.
