Editorial

Journal of Orthopedic Oncology has seen tremendous growth in terms of recognition and advancement in recent years. Journal of Orthopedic Oncology focuses on many aspects including on inter disciplinary collaborations and providing platform for publication of relevant research works and clinical studies and reports globally. The journal also aims to provide the most relevant and practice based information to every young researcher involved in care of bone, spine and tumors.

Cancers and bone tumors specifically require multidisciplinary approach towards managing patients. Orthopaedic Oncology as it is termed is not simply a surgical branch but requires inputs from various different faculties including orthopaedic oncologist, radiologist, pathologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, pediatric medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, plastic surgeons and micro-vascular surgeons.

The publication by Carolino DKD, et al. from Philippines have stated that cancer in pregnancy is defined as a cancer diagnosed from the first day of childbearing to one year post-partum, estimated to occur 1 in every 1,000 women [1,2]. Due to the relative rarity of the condition, guidelines for management are largely based from small retrospective studies or case series with limited follow-up [2-4].

Malignancy during pregnancy is known to be rare, affecting 1:1000 pregnancies with a reported incidence of 0.07% to 0.1% of malignancies [1-5], but with outcomes known to be devastating. Because of the rarity of this occurrence, this has only been the subject of very few studies so far. Hence, there has been a scarcity of guidelines regarding the clinical diagnosis and justifying the management of tumors during pregnancy.

In the review of available literature, the most common gestational cancers in terms of its organ of origin are breast and cervical cancer, followed by hematologic malignancies and melanoma [1-3,6], while the incidence of musculoskeletal tumors being comparably lower [3].

Journal of Orthopedic Oncology specifically aims to provide a platform where researches all over the world can communicate. We feel proud for possessing inter disciplinary members on the editorial board and in upcoming months we will be expanding this to include many more academic experts in this field of Orthopedic Oncology.

The aim of the journal is to communicate novel research activities and publication of clinically relevant articles globally through digital media. Although research has been increasingly seen as gaining importance in every country but there exists a lot of research apathy and research lethargy. Journal of Orthopedic Oncology aims to provide a platform for publication and will also provide assistance in manuscript preparation which will be useful for young researchers and writers. This assistance will be provided through our Editorial Team which is also involved in conception and publication of the Journal. Thus the authors will be supported at every stage of publication and best quality of articles are the output of our process and provide the same to our online readers.

We have embarked on a journey towards excellence in treatment of bone, spine and tumors. We would like to thank all our editorial board members who encouraged us and helped us in every way to start this venture. We thank all our authors who provided us with excellent articles. We also thank our reviewers who did rapid peer reviews and corrections in the articles. The future of Journal of Orthopedic Oncology looks very promising especially with the support from the editorial board. We as a team are committed to Journal of Orthopedic Oncology upliftment and development globally and aim to make this journal a landmark publication in years to come.
