Abstract
Poison control centers constitute a vital component of public health infrastructure, offering immediate assistance,
expert guidance, and educational resources to address poisoning incidents. Originating in the mid-20th century,
these centers have evolved to become crucial emergency response hubs, providing round-the-clock consultation
services manned by trained toxicology professionals. This article explores the historical development of poison control,
delineates the multifaceted roles these centers play, and highlights their significance in public health through data
collection, surveillance, and collaborative efforts with healthcare professionals. Challenges faced by poison control
centers, including funding limitations and evolving toxicology issues, are discussed alongside technological innovations
that enhance their efficiency. Emphasizing the importance of public awareness, the article underscores ongoing efforts
