Abstract

Trauma-informed care (TIC) is an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on individuals and incorporates this understanding into treatment for various health conditions, including addiction. Addiction often co-occurs with past trauma, particularly experiences of abuse, neglect, and violence, making traditional addiction i treatment approaches insufficient for many individuals. This paper explores the principles of trauma-informed care and how they can be applied to addiction recovery. TIC focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for individuals, helping them heal from trauma while addressing the complex needs of addiction. It highlights the benefits of this holistic approach, examines the challenges in implementing TIC, and discusses its potential to improve recovery outcomes.
