Eastern was established in the year 1979 in northern Cypurs in the Mediterranean region as a higher education institute of technology for Turkish Cypriots. The university was later converted to state university in the year 1986. The university offers graduate and post graduate course along with this the university is also well equipped for research studies also. As per the reports of world university ranking, Eastern Mediterranean University has been rated with three out of 5. In 2013, EMU ranked among the top 2000 universities as per the ranking of university ranking by academic performance.
