Institute of Agrobiotechnology

n 1997, negotiations began between the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) for the creation of a joint research center. On July 2, 1999, the Rector of the UPNA and the President of the CSIC signed a collaboration agreement for the constitution of a shared ownership center, which was initially assigned the name of the Institute of Agrobiotechnology and Natural Resources (IARN). The center welcomed researchers from the UPNA and CSIC, thus allowing synergies between the largest scientific research agency of the state (which at that time lacked representation in the Autonomous Community) and the UPNA. Given that the surface of existing laboratories in the building was reduced to develop the objectives, the Technological Plan of the Government of Navarra (2000-2004) provided funding that was allocated to the provision of new laboratories and infrastructure to the building. The expansion works were completed in April 2003 and both the CSIC and the UPNA contributed additional funds for the construction and equipping of the Center. Initially both the UPNA and the CSIC agreed that the IARN should be structured in two departments: Agricultural Biotechnology. Animal health. In September 2004, the IARN Steering Committee agreed to appoint a director, assign the center the new name of the Agrobiotechnology Institute (IdAB) and integrate the institute into the Technological Development Plan of Navarra. The address of the IdAB then assumes the following tasks: Define a Strategic Plan of the Institute. Establish an Internal Operating Regulation. Appoint a governing board. From the moment of its constitution, our institute has actively participated in the doctoral programs of the UPNa, the elaboration of different Technological Development Plans of Navarre and the organization of scientific congresses. International researchers have paraded our institute.
