Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a United States national laboratory which is operated by the University of California. It was founded in 1931 as Radiation Laboratory. This lab was started by Ernest Orlando Lawrence who won the 1939 Noble Prize in physics. They also started the project SEARCH which will help the persons with developmental disabilities get employment and this project proved to be strong commitment to inclusion and diversity. Thirteen scientists working in the lab are Noble Prize winners. It is supported by U.S. Department of Energy through its Office of Science. Eighteen of the engineers working there have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and three scientists have been elected into the Institute of Medicine. Teamwork is the main objective as it was believed by Lawrence that all the persons from various areas of expertise when work together will bring together something new and innovative and the scientific research will always be at is best in this way. Berkeley Lab has also been training many students of University of science and engineering so that they can learn something unique and innovative and contribute to the development of the world. Approximately 4200 scientists and engineers are now working in the lab.
