National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management

National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) was conceptualized by Government of India on persistent demand of the food Processing Industries to have an apex body as a "One Stop Solution Provider" for the various problems of the sector. The institute is spread over an area of 100 acres and the institute intends to working actively as a centre of excellence in setting up of global standards in the area of food technology and management. It will cater to the needs of various stakeholders such as entrepreneurs, industries, exporters, policy makers, government and existing institutions. NIFTEM being an apex institution under Ministry of Food Processing Industries have developed strong linkages with industries. NIFTEM plays a vital role in developing food standards, quality, accreditation and certification. It also provides incubator services to enable entrepreneurs to develop sustainable businesses. NIFTEM mission is to carry out R&D in frontier areas, develop world-class technologies and assist the government in policy making on food processing. To be a prime academic institution in the areas of food technology, etc. NIFTEM is making an effort in improving the food industry from production to retail, to ensure that all those involved in these activities reap the maximum possible benefits. It envisages being a focal point for catalysing the growth of Food Processing Industries. The Institute is offering B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D degree programmes in Food Technology and Management and at the same time taking up initiatives for research and extension activities. A unique curriculum is the blend of technology and management which is reflected in the undergraduate and post graduate programmes of NIFTEM. A study conducted by Institute of Applied Manpower Research (IAMR) predicts that, there is a wide skill gap at various levels in food sector touching. Thus food industries are going to be a major employer in the coming future. The achievements and award of NIFTEM are of 99th ISC certificates which include Agricultural Leadership Award 2015, Certificate Distribution, Pride of India Expo, etc.Research Development Council consisting of 87 members drawn from industry, academia & research institutions has been set up to chalk out the future research agenda of NIFTEM. Research Development Council includes experts from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), etc. DC provides insights & advice to NIFTEM in issues Identify industry problems which need to be taken up as research topics. Identifying collaborators and technologies that may improve an investigator’s research, etc. The areas of research are Nutraceutical and health foods, Food safety and traceability, Food supply chain and retail management, Design, modeling, and simulation of food processes, etc. Criteria of Undertaking Research Projects and Status Reports on various Products and Processes prepared at NIFTEM are detailed.
