National University of Mar del Plata

The National University of Mar del Plata is located in the Atlantic Ocean-front city of Mar del Plata. It is one of the worlds leading teaching and research universities. The institution has been dedicated to finding solutions to big challenges and to preparing students for leadership in a complex world. It was established in 1962 as the University of the Province of Buenos Aires (University of the Province of Buenos Aires). Later in 1975 it was changed to National University of Mar del Plata. The National College "Arturo U.Illia" affiliated to National University of Mar del Plata. It maintains relations of cooperation and mutual complementation formalized through a great number of agreements with universities, governmental and private organizations, business entities and social institutions of the local, provincial, national and international level. The university was founded on the basis of the provincial university. The university acquired its present name in 1975 under the auspices of the taquini plan the argentine government took over its administration and merged it with the universidad catolica stella maris (catholic university stella maris) In this way the National University was integrated by the following Faculties and Schools: Architecture and Urbanism, Agrarian Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Humanities, Law, Tourism and the School of Health Sciences. That same year, by Rectors Resolution, the Department of Sports and Physical Education was transformed into an Institute of Physical Education and Sports, and the Language School became Department of Languages with dependency of the Faculty of Humanities, in addition, the Nursing career was created Professional. Since its incorporation in 1975, UNMdP has upheld its abiding commitment to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and related areas of scholarship. Teaching and research with relevance to the practise world as guiding principle and continue to be the institute’s primary purpose as it serves the nation and the world. The UNMdP currently includes 33 graduate and 35 post-graduate schools and nine faculties are Architecture, Urbanism and Design, Agricultural Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences and Social Work, Law, Humanities, Engineering and Psychology .The university enrolls over 20,000 undergraduates .The University Assembly elected the Architect Javier Hernán Rojo as its first Rector in 1986 and the present Rector of the National University of Mar del Plata is Francisco Morea.
