Shenzhen Research Institute

With the support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, CUHK has begun to build its own CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute (SZRI) in March 2009. The institute, wholly-owned by CUHK, will provide a pivotal base for staff members to conduct research, development, training, and technology transfer. Located in the Shenzhen Virtual University Park, the Institute offers excellent opportunities for technology application in industry, as well as acquisition of local and national research funding. SZRI is scheduled for completion at early 2011. It will be a U-shape, 10-storey building with a gross floor of 25,000 sq m, providing spaces and facilities for state key laboratories, technology transfer, spin-off companies, training and teaching. Acting as a window to showcase CUHK in mainland, SZRI will officiate as an important Shenzhen research base for CUHK. Through it, CUHK will advance collaboration with the Shenzhen Municipal Government to establish world-class laboratories and take part in state key research, complementing the national development plans for the PRD region. Despite the rapid industrial development in the PRD region, the severe competition from other parts in Mainland poses a threat to the leading position of the PRD region. To reinforce its premier status, the SZRI will serve as a centre of industrialization for CUHK’s technology research by collaborating with corporations in Shenzhen, promoting the transfer of CUHK technologies and fostering the economic reengineering of the PRD region. SZRI will be actively involved in education, research, and industrialization in Shenzhen and the PRD Region. CUHK can advance its collaboration with Shenzhen in these areas and also strengthen its Mainland presence for future strategic development through the Institute. This is not only the starting point of CUHK’s development in Shenzhen, but also a monumental milestone in Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation which brings both cities’ superiority in to full play.

The following is the list of proceedings by scholars from Shenzhen Research Institute that are published in OMICS International journals and conferences.
