Universidad del Zulia

The University of Zulia is also known as LUZ basically significance to "light" in Spanish language, it is a public university which is established in the town of Maracaibo, Venezuela. LUZ is one of the greatest and most essential colleges of Venezuela. The University of Zulia has three campuses: two in the state of Zulia, in the places of Maracaibo and Cabimas; and one in the town of Punto Fijo, situated in Falcón State. The history of the university begins when a decree converting the Federal College of Maracaibo into the University of Zulia was passed on May 29, 1891. The university itself began its functions on September 11 of that same year i.e. 1891. Its first Chancellor was Francisco Ochoa. Due to the political reasons the university gets closed on 1904 and remains closed until the October 1, 1946, this event is known as “The Reopening”. The first Chancellor after the reopening was Jesus Enrique Lossada. The mission and vision: The University of Zulia is a scientific-educational organization based on the concepts of values, rights, independence, which AIMS at the development, transmitting and program of knowledge as a social value that produces power to the creativeness and advancement. To enhance and arrange through training, the full growth of human potential and Individual people, as well as building up the crucial research of expectation and perspective of the long run, for the growth of possible solutions appropriate to the problems of the area and the nation. The University of Zulia is an institution of academic excellence with social Commitment, a leader in the competitive generation of scientific knowledge, transferable through the comprehensive education of global citizens, reliable to interact with independence and assertiveness in overall societies.
