Radiotherapy is a treatment for cancer that uses carefully measured and controlled high energy x-rays. Radiation to the breast is often given after breast-conserving surgery to help lower the chance that the cancer will come back in the breast or nearby lymph nodes. External beam radiation is the most common type of radiation therapy for women with breast cancer.
