Editorial Note on Palliative Treatments

Introduction

While treating the cancer is vital, so are relieving side effects and symptoms.

Palliative care works best once you start it as soon as you would like it during the treatment process. People that receive palliative care alongside treatment for the cancer often have less severe symptoms, better quality of life, and are more satisfied with treatment. You will have palliative care at any age and for any type and stage of cancer. Areas where palliative care can help

Palliative treatments vary widely and sometimes include:

  • Medication
  • Nutritional changes
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Emotional and spiritual support
  • Support for youngsters or family caregivers

Social

You might find it hard to speak together with your loved ones or caregivers about how you are feeling or what you are browsing. Otherwise, you might need a support group or a ride to and from treatment. A caseworker can help with these situations. For instance, they can: Help you plan a family meeting. Suggest ways to arrange people that want to assist. Help you find medical information, rides, or services.

A caseworker also can provide palliative look after relations and caregivers. For instance, if they feel overwhelmed, the caseworker can help them find out what quite help they have and find it.

Emotional

Having cancer can cause you to feel many various emotions, like sadness, anxiety, or anger. It also can cause you too very stressed. A support group, counsellor, psychologist, or other specialist can assist you understand and deal with these emotions.

To find help, talk together with your health care team about how you are feeling. You will also find ways to deal with emotions.

Spiritual

Having cancer can mention many spiritual questions. You would possibly struggle to know why you bought cancer. Otherwise, you might need a greater purpose after surviving cancer.

If you belong to a faith community like a church, synagogue, or other group, your leader or community members could be ready to help support you spiritually.

Mental

For instance, if you are not sleeping enough, you would possibly feel stressed and have a tough time thinking clearly. Otherwise, you could be very anxious about whether your treatment is functioning.

Financial

Cancer treatment is often expensive. This could be an explanation for stress and anxiety for you and your family additional to treatment costs.
