Jacob "Jack" Kevorkian was an American pathologist, euthanasia activist, painter, author, composer, and instrumentalist. Eighteenth century medicine was more sophisticated. In 1991, Heinz Hoenecke of the USA founded the volunteer organization called Pathologists. The first national pathology informatics conference in the USA took place in 1983 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, entitled Automated Information Management in the Clinical Laboratory (AIMCL).Pathology, through an abundance of autopsies, played an increasingly important role in this development. Many pathologic observations were published in textbooks and Pathology journals. From early days of the twentieth century to the present the pace of discovery and change has accelerated still more. Ongoing advances in the fields of fixation, embedding, cutting, immunohistochemical staining, molecular methods, microscopy, and image processing have continued to yield better diagnostic tools, and new, better, more precise diagnoses. Many new journals have appeared to report these findings, including sub-specialty journals covering the broadest reaches of pathology.
