The University of Connecticut is a public research university in the U.S. state of Connecticut. UConn was founded in 1881 and is a Land Grant and Sea Grant college & member of the Space Grant Consortium. In 1881 it was founded as the Storrs Agricultural School and became the University of Connecticut in 1939. Today more than 16,000 undergraduates and 6,000 graduate students attend classes, perform cutting-edge research, and get involved in more than 500 clubs and organizations at our main campus. The University of Connecticut is one of the nations leading public research universities. UConns main campus in Storrs is admitting the highest-achieving freshmen in University history. Student diversity continues to increase, as does the number of honors students, valedictorians and salutatorians who consistently make UConn their top choice. The University of Connecticut is one of Americas top 20 public universities; UConn is the only public university in New England with its own Schools of Law, Social Work, Medicine, and Dental Medicine.
