Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) was named after the antiquated Greek savant Democritus who was conceived in the city of Avdira. Created in July 1973, it is situated in Komotini, Greece and has facilities in the Thracian urban communities of Xanthi, Komotini, Alexandroupoli and Orestiada. The college acknowledged its first understudies in the scholastic year 1974–1975. Starting 2014 DUTH embodies 8 schools — School of Humanities, Engineering School, Law School, School of Agricultural Sciences, School of Education Sciences, School of Economic and Social Sciences, School of Health Sciences and Physical Education and Sport Sciences. The aggregate number of understudies is 27,000 in 2014. As a college it is state-possessed and completely self-controlled. It is accordingly administered and sponsored by the Greek State and the Minister for National Education and Religious Affa.
