Aquaculture in India has evolved as a viable commercial farming practice from the level of traditionally backyard activity over last three decades. There are some institutions such as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture, Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture that are working on this project.
