Bengt Widegren

Professor of Molecular Biology
Professor of Molecular Biology Bengt Widegren, Lund, has died at the age of 61 years. His closest are the sons Fredrik and Henrik.
Bengt did his undergraduate studies in biochemistry and molecular genetics at Lund University. After a PhD in molecular genetics in 1986 with a series of works on repetitive DNA sequences of whales and two years of postdoctoral work in the United States, engaged Bengt - as assistant professor, associate professor and from 1995 as lecturer - increasingly in tumor immunological research at the Wallenberg Laboratory in Lund and cooperation with the Rausing Laboratory at the Department of neurosurgery.
In 2000, the Medical Products Agency permission for the treatment of patients with their own, the operation extracted tumor cells in the laboratory grown and processed so that they could be injected as a vaccine to patients.Bengt was appointed in 2004 as professor of molecular biology and devoted much interest in a key problem in cancerimmunologin, namely the ability of cancer cells to suppress immune reactions.
