Mexico is officially known as United Mexican States, located in North America surrounded by Pacific Ocean in the south-west region. The country is well-known for its Sculptures, Jewelry, Murals and a home for great artists.

Mexico is the fifth largest country with area of 2 million km2 and Spanish as an official language. It is covered with high mountains and deep canyons, deserts in the north and dense forests in the south and east. The country is rich in natural resources like copper, silver, oil and agricultural products.

Mexico constitutes 15th largest economy in the world and 11th as per power purchasing parity. It is the first Latin country to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Major sources of income are automobile industry, manufactured goods, electronics, construction, petroleum and mining, food and beverages, banking and financial services. The main agricultural products of the country are rice, wheat, corn, beans, soyabeans, coffee, dairy products, tomatoes, beef, poultry and cotton.

Mexico spends only 1% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the field of science and technology. The main research funding agency in Mexico City is National Council for Science and Technology. Three scientists were awarded Nobel Prize in the field of Chemistry, Peace and Literature since 1982.
